Image copyright Alamy Image caption The comparison is valid, says Mark Beeber, but it is not a comparison with Islam "So many of the questions that we ask about religion in Britain are built around the misconception that what we are asking about are Muslims. It is asking about Islam. So we ask 'Is it right?' and 'Is it wrong?'". "But it is not a comparison with Islam." The Brexit debate started on July 25 when three men from the city of Rotherham, in South Yorkshire, reported an 11-year-old girl had been subjected to sexual abuse by gangs of Asian men. This led to the publication of 1,400 pages of correspondence, emails and notes from social workers, probation officers and council workers. The findings from a 2011 police investigation led to a total of 439 people being charged with offences, ranging from rape to trafficking, but 400 of the suspects were later acquitted. Analysis Image copyright PA By Tim Donovan, BBC News Often, we think of terrorist incidents as being the product of individual grievances, or the work of lone wolves. But today's Home Affairs Select Committee report says the British way of life, and the government's culture of multiculturalism and open-door immigration, are what drove the Muslim men who carried out the London and Manchester attacks. The report says that the Port of Dover was turned into a "Fortress Europe" for container lorries, and immigration is deemed to have been "switched off", meaning that you don't have to be Syrian, Algerian or Nigerian to get into the UK. It also says the British way of life is being "squeezed out". The government says the report is a "typical example" of the "negative narrative" of Islamophobia, but others may see it differently. More on the report here. Professor Beeber added that in a first-world country, many Britons "don't really understand" the religion of Islam. "They have a very negative impression of Islam - they think it is homophobic, that it hates the west, that it is a sort of political organisation... that's what we see in the Westminster attack - the person did not represent Muslims at all," he said. He said this is "dangerous stuff" and is how extremist groups like Islamic State have been able to thrive. "There is a strand of British Islamism that is trying to use Islam to generate the mass support for their extremism and terrorism," Professor Beeber said. "So I think this is something that all of us need to be careful about when we're thinking about the problem of terrorism."Why Are Some People More Stressed Out Than Others? Posted on 9 December 2014 Its a fact of life in modern times. Stressing out is an unavoidable part of everyday life. During ordinary times, we stress out over a lot of things little things like schedules, grades, finances, and more.
